Hometown Flower Co.: Celebrating Local Blooms with Sustainable, Seasonal Floral Artistry

Hometown Flower Co. is a boutique floral design studio based in Huntington, New York, dedicated to connecting people with the beauty of locally grown, seasonal flowers. Founded in 2019 by third-generation florist Jaclyn Rutigliano and her husband, Marc Iervolino, the company emphasizes sustainable practices by sourcing 100% of their flowers from Long Island farmers during the growing season and avoiding environmentally harmful floral foam in their designs. Their signature “Flowers in a Bag” offerings bring fresh, farm-to-doorstep blooms to customers, while their vintage flower vehicles, including a 1976 Ford F-100 truck and a 1960 Vespa cart, add charm to events and workshops. Hometown Flower Co. also provides custom floral designs for weddings and special occasions, serving areas across Long Island, New York City, Westchester, and parts of the Hudson Valley and New Jersey. Committed to the “slow flower” movement, Hometown Flower Co. fosters meaningful connections between communities and local agriculture, encouraging customers to appreciate the natural beauty cultivated in their own backyards.

The Challenge

Hometown Flower Co., founded in 2019 by Jaclyn Rutigliano and Marc Iervolino, is Long Island’s first flower truck and a sustainable floral design studio based in Huntington, NY. Specializing in locally-grown, seasonal flowers, they offer unique services like their signature “Flowers in a Bag” subscriptions, workshops, and event floral design. Despite their innovative approach and strong local presence, Hometown Flower Co. faced challenges in scaling their digital marketing efforts to reach a broader audience and increase online sales. Key challenges included: Limited Social Media Strategy: While active on platforms like Instagram, their content lacked a cohesive strategy to drive engagement and conversions. Underutilized Content Creation: Opportunities existed to showcase their unique offerings, such as the vintage “Baby Blue” flower truck and workshops, through engaging multimedia content. Minimal Advertising Efforts: There was a need for targeted advertising campaigns to promote their services and products to a wider audience beyond their existing customer base.

The Solution

To address these challenges, we implemented a comprehensive strategy focusing on social media marketing, content creation, and advertising: Social Media Marketing: Developed a content calendar highlighting seasonal offerings, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and customer testimonials to foster community engagement. Introduced interactive elements like polls and Q&A sessions to increase follower interaction and feedback. Content Creation: Produced high-quality photos and videos showcasing the “Baby Blue” flower truck at events, floral arrangement processes, and workshop highlights to visually communicate their brand story. Created blog posts and newsletters featuring flower care tips, seasonal trends, and stories about local flower farmers to position Hometown Flower Co. as an authority in sustainable floristry. Advertising Campaigns: Launched targeted social media ads promoting their “Flowers in a Bag” subscription and workshop events to attract new customers. Utilized geo-targeting to reach potential customers in Long Island and surrounding areas interested in sustainable and locally-sourced products.
